September 2018

We’re Back!!!

Rizzaknits
The lovely, though headless model, is wearing a beret, scarves, cardigan, and sweater. All are original designs by Cassondra Rizzardi. If the model had hands, she would also be wearing gloves.

The "We Were the Seeds" shawl
The "Equinox" scarf

Each of Cassondra's designs centers in a related story. The "We Were the Seeds" shawl starts with sprouts (seed stitch), grows into roots (cables), and sprouts leaves (lace). It is pollinated (bee stitch) and blooms (floral). As with any plant, it needs to be well watered (blocking).

Her "Rope the Moon" shawl was inspired by a warm childhood memory of her father's love for his daughters. He said he would do anything for them, even "rope the moon". And he did in a very clever way.

The "Committed" shawl requires a commitment to complete, or is is that you should be committed? The "Walk the Block" knit along is meant to be worked as you walk. Now that's commitment, too.

Cassondra's on Ravelry at Rizzaknits. The designs she showed us at the September meeting are available for purchase.

And she only started knitting five years ago..........

Did you hand in the charity caps? Quite a few did!

KNITTED KNOCKERS

October meeting!!!!

The September meeting was quite busy. Three new members joined the guild. Welcome!

Do you have something you could donate for the monthly raffle? See Val.

Are you interested in helping to welcome new members and help them feel comfortable in our group?  Ask Kate about being an Ambassador.

The by-laws passed! Thank you to all those who worked on bringing about some good changes. Dues will be collected each September.
The president and vice-president elections have been shifted so that their terms will start in September of each year. As this is a year of transition to that format, please consider now who should be nominated for the next vice-president. It could be YOU!

Maggie Knits is coming to Kalamazoo October 13th.
Dorinda will be teaching at Heritage.

Don't miss the November meeting! BSKG is having its first Holiday Bazaar when members will sell their knitting related items to other members. Bonus! The Labor of Love Yarn truck will also be at the November meeting.

BSKG 1st Guest Post

Posted by Kim Whelan "copyright Geneve Hoffman Photography" I have this friend; maybe you have one like her? She’s the kind of friend that has all these crazy, great ideas, and somehow, before you know it, you’re smack dab in the middle of something! This friend is the reason that I found myself starting a knitting guild (BSKG) with her a few years ago and found myself president of said guild a few years later. She is also the reason that I started designing patterns. I was just drifting along, calmly knitting away when she said “write a pattern, challenge yourself” That is how I came to write my very first pattern “Etta” which appeared in Lace One Skein Wonders . Now writing a pattern didn’t come easy, there were many mistakes along the way, but I stuck with it and finally I had a pattern I was proud to publish on Ravelry. After that first pattern I wrote a few more that I was lucky enough to have printed in some local publications. But that friend of mine,

March Guild Meeting with Melynda Bernardi

Our guest speaker,  Melynda Bernardi of French Press  Knits, was wonderful! She shared about her background as a knitter, how the name French Press Knits was chosen,  how she started by selling felted slippers and progressed in to writing patterns. Her work is beautiful and she brought several samples to share. Melynda graciously offered a discount on her online patterns for the month of March for our guild members!
