March Madness

Heck no.... this is way more fun than watching basketball.

Guild members scored points sharpening their skills in crochet, showing off crocheted items, and sharing new (and old) projects. 













Karen's extraordinary knitting takes center court with her lace and cable creations. 


 Her Estonian lace is intricate and beautiful. 


Guess who is a new grandma? 



Vangie took first place in the shower gift division for her menagerie of folk tale characters. She gives the new baby a book for each story she has brought to life. 

Barb participated in this year's Olympic games by knitting appropriate socks. Why shouldn't knitting be an Olympic sport too?

Show and Tell brings out the best in the game....





 

Lucky child to have a talented Mom like Julia



Can you believe that Janeen knit this sweater 35 years ago? First, she doesn't look old enough; second, it might take many of us 35 years to finish such a complicated project. 



Rina is all smiles with because she finished her boot camp assignment. 

Merritt brought her Mom to the March meeting, and Mom brought her crocheted afghan. She works as she travels to Florida. Although she is known for her adventuresome knitting, Merritt showed a beautiful example of using crochet as an edging. 








Many of the Black Sheep members are also skilled at crochet. Harriett made this large shawl years ago; it is a classic, and classy, piece. 










While we always enjoy creating fancy work, often times every day items can be fun to make. Why not brighten up your cooking with colorful hot pads? Harriett brought these in from her own kitchen. Granny squares are a great way to use up bits of your stash in practical ways.

Crochet Away!




Some Guild members reviewed crocheting Granny squares and others chose to learn to crochet a charming bead necklace.

Using a pattern from Churchmouse, "Crocheted Beaded Necklace and Wrap Bracelet", members quickly designed their own jewelry from linen yarn and beads.

BSKG 1st Guest Post

She’s the kind of friend that has all these crazy, great ideas, and somehow, before you know it, you’re smack dab in the middle of something! This friend is the reason that I found myself starting a knitting guild (BSKG) with her a few years ago and found myself president of said guild a few years later. She is also the reason that I started designing patterns. I was just drifting along, calmly knitting away when she said “write a pattern, challenge yourself” That is how I came to write my very first pattern “Etta” which appeared in Lace One Skein Wonders . Now writing a pattern didn’t come easy, there were many mistakes along the way, but I stuck with it and finally I had a pattern I was proud to publish on Ravelry. After that first pattern I wrote a few more that I was lucky enough to have printed in some local publications. But that friend of mine,

March Guild Meeting with Melynda Bernardi

Our guest speaker,  Melynda Bernardi of French Press  Knits, was wonderful! She shared about her background as a knitter, how the name French Press Knits was chosen,  how she started by selling felted slippers and progressed in to writing patterns. Her work is beautiful and she brought several samples to share. Melynda graciously offered a discount on her online patterns for the month of March for our guild members!
