The group this month was smaller but lively!
Guest speaker was Julia Vesper, the owner of Knitterly
Things. She explained how she hand dyes quality yarns and fibers. The
picture shows examples of her sock yarn colors. No two seemed to be
alike! Julia talked about dying the yarns in her home, all the while
handling a family with young children and running her online business.
She started dying in 2005 and has created over 100 color
ways in 10 years. As she explained, she uses three colors: a bright, a
light, and a medium. She was right that this combination always creates a
"pop". Julia held up a sample of a Rainbow sock and the room burst
into "ooohhs" of appreciation.
She has dyed 400 skeins in two weeks, and she talked about
stretching the yarns across her house as she dyed and dried. Julia's
samples for Tuesday night included socks and mittens created from her hand

The best part is that she will be designing a special colorway exclusive to the Black Sheep Knitting Guild, that will be used for our 2017 Retreat Knit-A-Long.

Tanya showed us an unusual yarn (also in pictures) she found at Washtenaw Wool in Ann Arbor. She created a stunning cowl working the splat of color so it fell together surrounded by the cream color. Erika wore a gray and black shawl knitted using a "sequence" technique.

June 10 is Knit in Public Day. The BSKG is a co-sponsor with Mittens for Detroit of the World Wide Knit in Public Event at Leon and Lulu. There will be a small fee for participation. Many are interested in gathering for a dinner in Clawson after the Knit in Public event.
