October BSKG Meeting

October’s meeting was a well attended fun meeting. We had five guests and two new members joining us.

Our charity person, Judith Davis, collected the hats for newborns that will be donated to Providence Hospital.  The hat count to date is 114, that would be 22 cupcake, 10 Sirdar, 47 umbilical and 35 assorted cute newborn hats. It is an overwhelming number of little cute "as can be" hats.  A big thank you to all who made this project an astounding success. If you have not turned in your newborn hats, it is not too late, Judith will be collecting them at the November meeting.  Also, a note on Mittens for Vets, if you did not turn in your mitts or still have a kit, please turn them to Judith, thanks.

The slate for the November election was announced. Running for the office of Vice President will be Merritt Collins and Kathy Stasys.  Kathy was an active participant on the Retreat Committee last spring and Merritt presented a very entertaining trunk show featuring free form knitting last year   Either candidate will make a good choice for Vice President.  Be sure to come to the November guild meeting, so you may cast your vote for the candidate of your choice.

Swag, must-have Black Sheep stuff, was announced and orders are being taken for t-shirts.  They will be: short sleeve, colors Daisy, Iris, Pistachio and Safety Pink and long sleeve, colors Ash Grey, Garnet, Royal and Black. We should receive them at the November meeting.

Sue Waid presented a very lovely trunk show. Most enjoyable!  Thank you, Sue.

November's meeting is the Vice President election and the mystery brown bag swap, should be a fun time.

STITCH N' PITCH 2014

Well, yesterday was our Stitch N' Pitch Tiger baseball game and what a game it was!  We sold over 200 tickets to knitters, crocheters, embroiderers (is that a word?), and other needlecrafters.  The weather was the best, I think, in all the years we've been coming to these Stitch N' Pitch games.  And, the best of all - the Tigers won their fourth straight division crown.  Yea, Tigers!!!

This is the back of the t-shirts we got.  Aren't they grand?  The front has the Tiger D.

I want to thank everyone who brought mittens to the game.  They will be distributed by Mittens for Detroit to the homeless veterans who will seriously appreciate them this winter.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

FIRST MEETING - PICS

Well, last week's meeting was a lot of fun.  Since then I've gone to my 50th high school reunion and, yes, of course I wore something I knit.  It got so cool, it was perfect for a sweater.

At the meeting we had many lovely knits for show and share.

Noreen S. showed several items, including this incredible shadow knit shawl.  Think I might like to learn this technique.  How about you?  Can you tell who the picture is?  Hint, hint, initials are H.P.

Diane D. had a lovely shawl knit with yarn she got from Twisted Fiber Art at our meeting last February.  

Erika P. showed us several beautiful cowls that she was taking with her to Germany as gifts.

Kathleen E. finished her hitchhiker scarf.  Yea!  Incredible yarn, so beautiful.

Among several items that Ernestine  B. showed us was this really gorgeous lace wrap.

We had a silent auction with lots of lovely yarns, umbrellas, hats, blankets, etc.  Hard decisions as to which items to bid on.

 

 
We had many knitters turn in their charity baby hats.  Don't worry if you didn't turn yours in.  They actually aren't due until our October meeting.  So, be sure to bring them to the next meeting.

Hope you all had a wonderful time at the first meeting of the Black Sheep Knitting Guild this fall.  Looking forward to seeing all of you (and more) at the meeting on October 14.  We will be ordering swag (t-shirts).  Don't worry, you don't have to pay for them until you get them.  We will have nominations for vp, our first of the season raffle, and a trunk show by Sue W.

First meeting of the year!

Tonight is the first meeting of our Guild for this season!  I'm so excited and hope you are too and plan to attend.  Doors open at 6:30 and the meeting begins at 7.

We'll have lots of fun and interesting things going on at the meeting.  We will have a silent auction with many beautiful items for you to see and bid on.  Don't forget to bring your summer projects to "show and share."  We all want to see what you've been working on since our last meeting in May.

Charity items are due at next month's meeting.  Don't know about you, but once I started knitting those little hats for newborns, I could hardly stop. 

Lastly, there will be sign up sheets for committees and for donations for the raffles.  Please consider becoming involved!

May Meeting

There was a full house for the May meeting, the last meeting of the season. 

Swap and sale.
Our members brought yarn and other craft items to trade, sell, or stuff that was freebies.  Oh my, but this was a fun evening.  .

A reminder from our charity coordinator, Judith Davies,  hats for newborns are due in October.  This would be great summer knitting project, quick and easy.

2014 Retreat

Hello everyone,

Thought I'd tell everyone a little bit about our retreat this past weekend.  There were 28 Black Sheep up at Higgins Lake at the MacMullan Conference Center.  We had a ball!  Weather wasn't great, but we were warm and dry inside with our knitting, spinning, and just plain relaxing.

 

We got our swag Friday evening at dinner.

Here are some pics of the door prizes on display on Friday night.  They were lovely and, oh, so many.  We were practically drooling!

 

 

We voted on which yarn was the softest, which had the best name and a couple of other categories.  Hard to choose.  I, myself, walked the line at least 4 times trying to decide which should win a category.

 Saturday we had mini classes - we made washcloths with the Black Sheep logo.  These are some of the colorful yarns we got to choose from.

We also did some needle felting on coasters and made magnetic line markers.  
Erika taught German short rows.  I believe she did two sessions, so many wanted to learn!

Saturday afternoon we had massages and later got to do some yarn and knitting bag shopping. 

Snacks.  Did I say we had snacks?  Fruit, veggies, pop corn, chips, candies, and more.  Wow, can't believe no one took a picture of all the wonderful chocolate bark that our v.p. Donna's, husband made for us.  OMG, was that good!!!

 

 And for a special treat, snow.  It was snowing during Sunday's breakfast.
